Nelson's Story

On learning he had a recurrence of hepatitis C:

"When I first found out that the virus had returned, I felt quite dejected for a period of time."

"There's even a tendency, I think, to perceive that maybe your life is going to be a lot shorter than you thought it was."

"That period, I suppose, lasts for a while and then at some point, at least in my case, you decide, well, let's quit worrying about the loss last Sunday and get ready for the next football game."

On sticking with INFERGEN® (Interferon alfacon-1) therapy:

"There's going to be times when you wish you were not on the medication. But I would point out that it's temporary, even though 24 to 48 weeks can seem like something other than 'temporary' while you're on it."

"The consequences of successful treatment are worth it compared to what untreated hepatitis can do."

On the side effects of INFERGEN:

"I think that there are a number of things that you can do for yourself to help with the side effects. One of them is to take things slowly. Not get in a big hurry to do things."

On achieving viral negativity with INFERGEN:

"I took INFERGEN for 48 weeks and I've been off therapy now for eight months. The virus hasn't come back, and I feel great."
